சீதாராம் கோயல் (1921-2003) சுதந்திர இந்தியாவின் ஒரு முக்கியமான வரலாற்று அறிஞர் மற்றும் சமூக சிந்தனையாளர்.
1940களில் தீவிர கம்யூனிச ஆதரளவாக இருந்து 50களில் சோவியத் அரசின் கோரங்கள் பற்றி அறிந்து, அதைத் துறந்து இந்து தர்மம், இந்திய தேசியம் என்ற தன் வேர்களுக்குத் திரும்பினார். இந்து சமுதாய, அரசியல் பிரசினைகள், கம்யூனிசத்தின் கொடூரங்கள், கிறிஸ்தவ மதப் பரவல் மற்றும் மிஷநரிகள், கிறிஸ்தவ மத அடிப்படைகளைத் தகர்க்கும் மேற்கத்திய அறிவியக்கம், இந்தியாவில் இஸ்லாமிய ஆக்கிரமிப்பின் வரலாறு மற்றும் அதில் இழையோடும் ஜிகாத் வன்முறைக் கோட்பாடு, இவற்றைப் பற்றிய ஆழமான ஆய்வுகள், வரலாற்று உண்மைகளை வெளிக் கொணரும் பல முக்கிய நூல்களை அவர் எழுதியும், தொகுத்தளித்தும் உள்ளார். ஆற்றொழுக்குப் போன்று, அதே சமயம் கூர்மை தெறிக்கும் ஆங்கிலத்தில் 35க்கும் மேற்பட்ட நூல்களையும், குறிப்பிடத்தக்க ஹிந்தி மொழியாக்கங்களையும், பத்திரிகைக் கட்டுரைகளையும் அவர் படைத்திருக்கிறார். கோயலின் இஸ்லாம் தொடர்பான சில வரலாற்று ஆய்வு நூல்களைத் தடைசெய்யுமாறு அராஜக கோரிக்கைகள் எழுந்தன. இரண்டு நூல்கள் குறுகிய காலத்திற்கு தடை செய்யப் பட்டு, பின்னர் நீதிமன்றக் குறுக்கீட்டால் தடை விலக்கப் பட்டது.

He was a simple man ,a meditative person,by which let us not conjure a recluse,he was right in the middle of the hustle bustle of his big office by the street at Ansari Road,New delhi.
I walked in one sunny day ,i think in 1985,finding him immersed in tomes, allover him,as the city traffic snarled noisily.
His penetrating reading of the history of India,of the story that was never told,a story that was distorted by this ‘socialist’ perverts,all happened unbelievably by the street,sipping cups upon cups of coffee and a ciggarette.
Yes he was a karma yogi.such yogic concentration of mind.

Ram swarup visited Tamilnadu in early eighties,for a function in vivakananda kendra.
He again was the man behind the man.
Though not the first to write a critique of Islam,understanding Islam through the Hadis,his work had an unique feature.
He compared the hindu idea of yogic vision with wafi-the revealation in trance, and showed how not all visions and experiences of an altered state of mind can be trusted as from God.

It is a pity that while he was alive,even the BJP that reaped the harvest of such honest workers in coming to power,didnt even help lift the false cases foisted on him.
