What Ails Indian Education !

This is a very thought provoking article ! Indian education is very well renowned. There is little doubt about this. Our higher educational institutions like IITs, IIMs, IISc, AIMS, NLS,JIPMER, AFMC etc. etc. are shining symbols of our glorious success in higher education. But where are we going now ?

We have started playing with the future of generations by tampering with the very fundamental of selection process in the name of reservation. Some of the communities have little chance of getting into medicine etc. even if the score 99.99 % in entrance tests in some of the states ! In some of the states the entrance test is conveniently dispensed with to help the political administrators !

If you are belonging to a religious minority group you can open an educational institution and start minting money from students by exploiting various loopholes by way of transportation charges, hostel charges, building maintenance charges, educational trips etc.

We have no standard syllabus. SSC, SSLC, CBSE, State Board, ICSC etc. all for same 10th class and 12th class with varying level of evaluating system and examination pattern.

Prolific growth of tution centers for kinder garden to class 12. They are neither regulated nor governed by any laws of this land.

Donations for school admissions in various forms and means. Without greasing the palms nothing moves in the educational system.

As against dedicated teachers and professors, now we have persons who are victims of circumstances who lecture without having any interest of the listeners.

Unlike the west we have little choice or opportunity to earn while you learn.

All these things are leading to exodus of students to lands of opportunities where things were so far FAIR ! Now there also things have started turning for the worst.

What can a studnet do but for kneeling down and pray for some miracle !!!!

Sorry for writing in English.I read the above article and I am not sure where to start. I have been living in Australia for over 32 years. Australia was a racist country in the past. ( refer to White Australia policy). This changed in in the late 60 when the original inhabitants, the aboriginies were given equal rights as the whites. They were also given voting rights. The Australian society has changed since. The society has evolved into a muticultural society, under successive labour and liberal govts. I hardly saw any Indians when I migrated here in 1977. Now, we have a thriving, very well off Indian community here, with our own temples and cultural festivals. The Indians who have migrated to this country are probably the wealthiest in the country. Per capita income for Indians, like USA, will probably be the highest for any migrant group. Most of the Indians work as profeesionals, like doctors, accountants and in IT industries. Many of my long term Indian friendsand I have not been subjected to any racisim here so far.
This does not mean that racisim DOES NOT EXISTS. There is a significant minority group, whites as well as Lebanese (in particular who are a pathetic bunch of no hopers and druggies) are finding the Indian students as easy targets for racial and opportunitic attacks, These students work in late night jobs (that other communities are reluctant to take) and travel at night alone and do not put up with any resistance when attacked by these thugs. The police in Paramatta area in Sydney are willfully negligent to the complaints of the students. They are also handicapped by the " do good laws" which favour the attackers rather than the victims. The police are also totally understaffed and have a poor attitude to these complaints.
The real reason why Indians come to Australia is pure and simple: BACK DOOR WAY OF GETTING PERMANENT RESIDENCY TO AUSTRALIA. The courses they undertake are are probably worthless and unintresting and totally unrelated to their studies in India. The time they work in the odd jobs and studies earn them points for their future applications for migration to Australia. The whole point of coming to Australia is to get a permanent residency visa and nothing else. I do understand their motivation and appreciate thei zeal and hard work. They can be a bit of irritant to the local community as they mostly talk(loudly) in Hindi and tend to treat the whole area as another part of India but this behaviour DOES NOT deserve attacks by anyone in any form.
By the way, I have not heard of any deaths due to these racial/opprtunitic attacks, as described in the article. The author should not mislead the public in India by false accusations.Final point:: YES, there are racial attacks on Indian students in Australia,by a small minority group of mid-eastern and white people but MAJORITY attacks are pure and simple OPPORTUNITIC attacks on easy targets. The Indian media got to take the blame for overblowing this situation. Majority of Australians are NOT racial as implicated in the article. Most of them are laid back and easy going sort.I have a lot of Aussie patients and you cannot get a better bunch of people than them. They are equally disgusted with these attackas as they hold Indians in very high regard.
