This is a timely article. What the book is about may shock some readers , the way it shocked people like me a few years ago.
The line of thinking by some Western academics make us want to throw up.
It is easy to see why Mr Malhotra uses the chakra explanation.
Some minds operate at the lowest levels and want everyone else’s to operate that way too.

Amartya Sen got hisNobel prize for Economics. (We all know about Nobel prizes.Obama got it for peace this year for promising to do something for world peace!) He has been living outside India for a long time. But he is being promoted here by some vested interests as a ‘know it all’ about the history, culture and heritage of India, thinking that it will help them in their ‘fight’ against Hinutva forces.

இந்த இரண்டாம் பகுதியில் ‘அநசூயையின் சித்திரம் ஒரு பக்கம்…’ என்று ஆரம்பிக்கும் பத்தியில் ‘தான் ஈன்ற மகவுகளை கங்கைக்கு இரையாக்கிய ஊர்வசி..’ என்று விழுந்திருக்கிறது. ஊர்வசி என்ற இடத்தில் கங்கை என்று இருக்கவேண்டும். ஆனால் இந்தக் கதையை நான் சின்ன வயதில் படித்த காலத்திலிருந்தே அந்த இடத்தில் ஊர்வசி என்றுதான் வைத்துப் படிக்கத் தோன்றுகிறது. கங்கையை கங்காதரரோடு அன்றி மானிடரோடு தொடர்பு படுத்திப் பார்க்க என் மனம் ஒப்புவதில்லை. இந்த மனப்பான்மையின் காரணமாக தவறிப்போய் ஊர்வசி என்று விழுந்திருக்கிறது. பொறுப்பீராக.

Your observations are fantastic. By reading your review I think I will buy this book, read it and then give my comments.
Many western writers have taken liberties with our literature. Even the great author, Amarthya Sen wrote in his book that Vedas are just collection of some hymns and not the storehouse of knowledge as claimed by some hindu organizations. (Argumentative Indian) I wanted to write to him to know our culture first before putting his ignorance in writing. He may be a Nobel laureate. But what he wrote about Vedas is incorrect.
Thank you. Keep it up. My best wishes to you and your noble effort.
(I passed out of my school in 1950 after 10th std and intermediate in 1953. I am writing Tamil after more than 50 years.)
